What the heck is a "doorhanger"?

   A doorhanger is a person who hangs doors...just kidding! Doorhangers are one of the most undervalued marketing tools of all time. My first introduction to doorhangers was almost twenty years ago when I was looking for ways to finds leads for the home improvement company I was working for at the time.

   Fortune smiled on me and right in the very office building I was working was a small company that produced doorhangers for all kinds of clients. After several discussions with the owner, I actually decided to leave the home improvement business and start selling doorhangers. Five years later I ended up owning the doorhanger company!

   Doorhangers are very similar to postcards except they have a hole in them so they can be hung on the doorknob of your home (Click here to view some examples) the biggest difference with doorhangers are the cost, generally they cost about half the price of a direct mailing program.

  Another benefit is that doorhangers are delivered on the front door of the home, this keeps your message away from the bills in the mailbox. Your doorhanger is delivered alone to the door of your targeted prospects, even First Class Mail cannot do this!

   Doorhangers come in many shapes and sizes. In the past I have produced doorhangers in the shape of a Gorilla, a Whale and even a Mercedes Benz but most doorhangers a rectangular in shape and printed in full color. The most common size is 4.25" x 11", I also offer a jumbo doorhanger that's 5.5" x 17".

   Now doorhangers are used primarily for "saturation marketing" in circumstances where your offer would appeal to the majority of people in a given geographic area. A few of the company's that use them successfully are Maid Services, Carpet Cleaners, Home Improvement Contractors, Fitness Clubs, Storage Facilities, Car Dealerships, etc.
